Skincare routine tips for each season

It's important to know what your skin needs in each season, because if you don't, your skincare routine could be contributing to the signs of aging. Here are some tips for changing up your skincare routine based on the seasons:

Switch to a mild cleanser in the winter.

The winter can be harsh for skin. The dry air, cold temperatures, and lack of sunlight all take a toll on your complexion. To combat these effects, use a gentle cleanser in the winter that has a pH between 5.5 and 6.5. Look for products that are labeled as "mild" or "non-irritating." Some examples include CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, L'Oreal Paris Infallible Makeup Remover For Sensitive Eyes & Lips (which is also great for removing waterproof makeup), Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser with Aloe Vera & Chlorophyll ($9)

Wear sunscreen year-round.

You may think that sunscreen is only necessary during the summer months, but the truth is that you should be wearing it year-round. The sun's rays are just as strong in winter, and they can cause damage to your skin even if you're not spending as much time outdoors.

In addition to wearing sunscreen year-round, it's important that you choose a product with an SPF level beyond 30--and one that offers broad spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays. This means that your skin will be protected from damaging UV light regardless of whether it's raining or snowing outside!

Be strategic with exfoliation.

The key to keeping your skin looking good in the winter is exfoliation. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and gives you a fresh, glowing complexion. It also helps with acne, because it gets rid of impurities that can clog pores and cause pimples to form.

However, it's important not to overdo it when it comes to exfoliating! You want your face to look healthy and youthful--not red or irritated. So use gentle products once or twice a week (and no more than once every three days). This means either physical exfoliants like scrubs or chemical ones like peels will be best for you depending on what kind of product you prefer using on your face.

Use an antioxidant serum year-round.

Antioxidants are a great way to get started, as they can help prevent premature aging and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Antioxidants work by neutralizing free radicals in your skin that cause damage from sun exposure, pollution and other environmental factors. They also combat acne-causing bacteria as well as dark spots caused by hyperpigmentation (a result of sun damage).

Most antioxidants have a specific purpose: vitamin C is an excellent antioxidant that helps protect against UV rays; vitamin E helps maintain healthy cell membranes; green tea extract contains polyphenols that act as anti-inflammatory agents; cocoa butter contains saturated fats called stearic acid which act as natural emollients while providing SPF protection from UVA rays

Use a heavier moisturizer for winter.

Winter is the dryest season, so you'll want to use a heavier moisturizer that's rich in moisture. If your skin tends toward oily, consider using a gel-based moisturizer instead of cream or oil-based products as they can make pores appear larger and cause breakouts. Makeup artists often recommend using SPF 30+ sunscreen year round--but if you're going out during daylight hours in cold weather or spending time outdoors at night (like skiing), then it's especially important to protect yourself from sun damage by wearing extra sunscreen layers underneath makeup or other cosmetics.

Consider getting a humidifier for your room.

  • Consider getting a humidifier for your room. While it might seem counterintuitive to add moisture to the air when you're already dealing with dry skin, coughs and allergies, there are several benefits to keeping your environment humidified:

  • Humidifiers can help reduce symptoms of asthma and allergies by making breathing easier. They also prevent dry skin and eczema flare-ups by keeping skin hydrated. In addition to this, they can provide relief from congestion in the nose, throat and lungs--which may make it easier for you to breathe during cold weather months (or even just during springtime).

  • Finally--and most importantly--humidifiers can keep eyes from drying out as much as they would if there were less moisture in the air!

Your skin gets dryer in the summer, so you need lightweight moisturizers, hydrating toners, and soothing masks or serums.

  • Hydrating toners: Toner is a product you apply to your face after cleansing and before moisturizing. It helps to remove any residue left behind by other products, like dirt or makeup, and it also helps to balance the pH of your skin, which is important because it's slightly acidic (between 4 and 6). If your skin feels tight after cleansing, try using a hydrating toner after rinsing off your cleanser but before applying moisturizer. This will help restore moisture in that area while also preparing it for any other skincare products you want to use afterward.*

  • Moisturizers with hyaluronic acid: Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule found in our bodies that helps retain water molecules on the surface of our skin--it works like an internal "sponge" for hydration! If you're looking for something lightweight but still effective at locking in moisture over time without clogging pores or irritating sensitive areas like blemishes or broken capillaries around the nose area (which tend to flare up during hot weather), look into creams containing high concentrations of this ingredient.*

  • Soothing masks/serums: Another great way to keep cool during summertime heat waves? Try applying calming masks made from natural ingredients such as aloe vera gel or cucumber slices--these can provide instant relief from irritation caused by sun exposure when applied directly onto troubled areas such as dry patches under eyes where blood vessels dilate due

Spf is crucial in the summer because the sun's rays are stronger and can cause premature aging and skin cancer.

  • Sunscreen is a must in summer, because the sun's rays are stronger and can cause premature aging and skin cancer.

  • You should use a broad spectrum sunscreen that protects against UVB (the burning rays) and UVA (the aging rays).

  • Reapply your SPF every 2 hours, or after swimming or sweating heavily.

  • Wear hats, sunglasses, and clothing with long sleeves/pants to protect yourself from direct sunlight as much as possible

Change your skincare routine based on the season

The seasons will change, and so should your skincare routine. In the winter, you'll want to moisturize more than usual to keep your skin from drying out. In the summertime, you should be using sunscreen every day!

If you have dry skin or live in a dry climate (like me), I recommend using a mild cleanser in the wintertime that won't strip away too much moisture from your face.

With these tips in mind, you can keep your skin healthy and beautiful all year long. Remember that the most important thing is to listen to what your skin needs. If it's dry or oily, use products that will address those issues--and don't forget about SPF! Hopefully these tips will help you feel more confident about getting out there into the world looking great no matter what season it is.#ENDWRITE
