My 10-Minute Makeup Routine

My 10-Minute Makeup Routine-Platinum Deluxe

Here's a simple, effective makeup routine that will give you a polished, gorgeous look in just 10 minutes.

Get Ready to Shine

  • Get ready to shine. If you want to look your best, it's important to use a good quality makeup brush and clean them regularly.

  • Cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser before applying any other products. This will ensure that all traces of dirt, oil and makeup are removed from the skin, allowing for better absorption of moisturizers and serums later on in the routine!

  • Moisturize! Hydration is key for keeping fine lines at bay--you should always apply moisturizer after cleansing as part of your daily skincare routine (makeup remover wipes count as part of this step!).

Prime Your Skin

  • Prime your skin.

A good primer will help your makeup last longer, look smoother and more even, and go on more easily. I recommend using a primer before applying foundation and/or powder.

  • Apply sunscreen if needed.

If you're going to be outside for any length of time--and especially if you'll be exposed to the sun--it's important that you wear sunscreen! Sunscreen helps protect against wrinkles caused by UV rays as well as skin cancer (which is no small thing).

Powder Your Face

A few quick tips:

  • Use a powder brush to apply the powder. It's best to use this technique with a translucent, not white, powder.

  • Lightly dust your face with the brush in circular motions until you feel like there isn't any excess left on your skin or in the brush. You don't want to go overboard with this step--you're just setting up your base!

  • Be sure that whatever makeup brush you choose is soft and fluffy; it should feel comfortable against your skin when applying product.

Contour Your Cheekbones

To contour your cheeks, you'll want to use a brush that has angled bristles. The angle of the brush will allow you to apply product with more precision and control. I like using my Sigma F40 large powder brush for this step because it's dense enough to pick up pigment but soft enough not to be harsh on my skin.

To contour your nose, use a smaller brush with flatter bristles so that you can get right up against the bone without applying too much color or making any mistakes! I like applying MAC Pro Sculpting Duo in Darker Shade (which comes as part of their Kit) here because both shades are easy-to-use and blendable--and they're also matte! If you want something creamier but still affordable, check out the NYX Microbrow Pencils ($7).

For contouring your forehead and chin area: Use a fluffy blending brush with rounded edges rather than pointed ones (like those found on most kabuki sponges). This will help blur any harsh lines left behind by darker shades used earlier in this process while keeping everything blended together seamlessly at once instead of having multiple steps where there might be visible lines between colors which could look unnatural if done incorrectly

Highlight Your Forehead, Nose and Chin

Highlight your forehead, nose and chin.

  • Highlight: Use a neutral shade that's one shade lighter than your skin tone on the high points of your face--the center of the forehead, bridge of the nose, top lip and chin area. This makes you look more awake and slims down any roundness in those areas.

  • Blend: Blend well with fingers or brush so there are no harsh lines (or shadows). If you want more definition around the contour line between highlighting and shadowing just add a little bit more powder to those areas but don't overdo it; this will give you an unnatural look!

  • Time spent: Only spend about 10 minutes doing this step

Color On The Lips

Next, apply lipstick. If you have a lip liner that matches your natural lip color, use it to outline the shape of your lips. Then fill in with lipstick or gloss as needed.

If you want to add more color, use a lip gloss over top (or under!).

Add Eyeliner & Mascara To Finish It Off!

  • Add eyeliner to the top and bottom lash line.

  • Apply mascara to both your upper lashes and lower lashes.

  • Add more mascara if you want! You can never have too much mascara!

  • If you're feeling extra fancy, add some eyeliner on top of that--or even in between eyeshadow colors for an extra pop of color!
