It's important to know what your skin needs in each season, because if you don't, your skincare routine could be contributing to the signs of aging. Here are some tips for changing up your skincare routine based on the seasons:

Switch to a mild cleanser in the winter.

The winter can be harsh for skin. The dry air, cold temperatures, and lack of sunlight all take a toll on your complexion. To combat these effects, use a gentle cleanser in the winter that has a pH between 5.5 and 6.5. Look for products that are labeled as "mild" or "non-irritating." In addition to wearing sunscreen year-round, it's important that you choose a product with an SPF level beyond 30--and one that offers broad spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays. This means that your skin will be protected from damaging UV light regardless of whether it's raining or snowing outside!

Be strategic with exfoliation.

The key to keeping your skin looking good in the winter is exfoliation. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and gives you a fresh, glowing complexion. It also helps with acne, because it gets rid of impurities that can clog pores and cause pimples to form.

If it's dry or oily, use products that will address those issues--and don't forget about SPF!
