PRODUCT INFORMATION Platinum Deluxe – 5.5% Advanced Exfoliating Serum Contains 5.5% Lactic Acid and 2% Glycolic Acid (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) What are Alpha Hydroxy Acids? Alpha Hydroxys are natural acids that are found in many fruits (grapefruit, coconut, etc.) and milk sugars. They help improve skin texture by removing dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. These dead skin cells may cause fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes, forehead and neck area and between the eyebrows as well as roughness on your face from excessive sun exposure .
What does platinum do to skin?
Platinum deluxe has been shown to exhibit antioxidant activity, reducing inflammation and free-radical damage and protecting the outer skin layer. It also has been found to bind to oxygen in the air (or singlet oxygen) and reduce its activity. This can help prevent sun damage from UV rays that are known to break down skin cells (by breaking down the DNA), leading to accelerated ageing. Platinum is believed to be able to penetrate through skin layers, all the way into cells, to achieve these benefits.
The mechanism of action: Platinum's ability to shield skin from harmful UV light as well as its ability to block intracellular free radicals present in tissues can be explained by the fact that it is a strong electron donor and an effective scavenger of superoxide anion. Moreover, platinum can reduce nitrosation and photo-oxidation, which are important mechanisms involved in the process of melanogenesis and ageing.
How often should you apply?
Platinum comes in a range of strengths, with active concentrations ranging from 0.7% to 22%. Given that the concentration used for SPF formulations is usually between 2% and 6%, it is not required that you apply SPF every day. However, application of the ingredient on a daily basis can be helpful.
How do you apply it?
For an optimal effect, the product should be applied to skin before sun exposure. While applying it directly on the skin (preferably 15 minutes before being exposed to UV light) would provide the best results, this is not practical for most people as they will also have to apply sunscreen along with their SPF.
Where can you find it?
Platinum may be found in many different products with SPF claims, such as moisturisers, creams and lipsticks. Many makeup products that claim to offer protection from UV light may contain platinum as a sunscreen ingredient.
